V&E Greenline Stationhouse

1625 Tutwiler

The V&E Greenline Community Park is 1.7 miles long. It requires constant maintenance—mowing the grass, removing dead trees and planting new ones, tending to the shrubs and overgrowth, providing landscaping and managing the activity of the park. In order to accomplish this, the V&E Greenline has accumulated an array of equipment: a Kubota tractor with a front-end loader, mower and blade; a trailer to haul debris; three riding lawn mowers and numerous hand tools.  The V&E Greenline Stationhouse has improved the ability of the volunteers to access and use this equipment.

The V&E Stationhouse will also be a meeting and recreational space. The windows of the stationhouse will display V&E Greenline memorabilia, while the inside walls will have posters reflecting the history of the V&E Greenline.

The V&E Stationhouse was built in a historic theme. The area adjacent to the V&E Greenline is a National Historic District. The V&E Greenline was developed on the site of the old L&N Railroad whose historic predecessors dated back to 1840.

The V&E Greenline Committee and volunteers assisted in planning, fund raising, painting and many other activities. Thank you to the Executive Director and Board of VECA CDC for their support of this complicated project.

The Tennessee Parks and Greenways Foundation provided a grant to the V&E Greenline for the stationhouse project.  Allstate Insurance Company provided a grant to help build the stationhouse.  A special thanks to Allstate agent Woody Pierce for his efforts to obtain the grant.

The design mirrors historic stationhouses located in West Tennessee in earlier times. A special thanks is due to Bill Rehberg as the chair of the building committee. Joe Kerley provided assistance in construction management and is pictured supervising the preparation of the architectural braces.  and Jan Kirby was responsible for many of the finishing touches on the building and she managed the dedication.

STATION HOUSE DEDICATION NOVEMBER 11, 2006

The Stationhouse, along with Keeler Bridge, was dedicated on November 11, 2006, the tenth anniversary of the V&E Greenline.  The dedication was held in conjunction with the Neighbors for Tree's Forest Faire.

A special thanks to Marci Hendrix for the photos of the dedication.
