The V&E Greenline is a 1.7-mile rails-to-trails park that is owned by the neighborhood and was purchased by the neighborhood in 1996. Click Here to see the history of the V&E Greenline.

Prior to its purchase by the neighborhood, this corridor was overgrown and strewn with debris.  After many cleanups and plantings, the V&E Greenline is now a neighborhood focal point—although much remains to be done. Volunteers do all of the work and funding comes from contributions and grants. Click Here for a tour of the V&E Greenline.

What is the V&E Greenline today? It is:

  • Residents walking and biking on the V&E Greenline.

  • Runners improving their health through exercise on a path near their home.

  • A neighborhood amenity that has earned recognition and acclaim beyond the neighborhood itself.

  • A place where neighbors meet spontaneously and learn more about others and their concerns.

  • Citizens volunteering to maintain and enhance the V&E Greenline, which in turn improves the Vollintine-Evergreen area.

  • People contributing funds to support a neighborhood amenity.

  • An urban forest in the middle of Memphis with trees and wildlife.

  • Users picking up litter and depositing it in the many garbage cans located in the neighborhood.

  • Users who appreciate the wonderful amenity:

"I've enjoyed the Greenline after my morning runs. I stretch while watching bees and hummingbirds pollinate the flowers. It's a peaceful way to start the day."

"I will probably use this route more now that North Parkway is closed and your second bridge is in place. Your second bridge is beautiful."

"Greenline volunteers have donated thousand of hours of their time and thousand of dollars of their own money, and they have also raised a considerable amount of other funding. The result is a valuable , visible, and highly-publicized asset to our neighborhood."

The V&E Greenline is privately owned by the V&E Greenline Community Corporation (called corporation) and managed by the V&E Greenline Committee of VECA CDC (called committee). Both the corporation and committee give permission for others to use the land for passive recreational purposes—except in those cases where the use or user is prohibited. Anyone who uses the V&E Greenline accepts the limitations and regulations imposed by both the corporation and committee. In addition, the corporation and committee and their agents may take photographs of anyone using the Greenline. The corporation and committee are not required to obtain release statements. Anyone taking pictures may not copyright those photographs without the permission of the corporation or committee. All photographs taken on the property of the V&E Greenline are considered to be in the public realm and cannot be limited by copyright. The corporation and committee are not required to indicate attribution when using any photographs taken on the V&E Greenline property.
