Storm Damage
Ouch! The V&E Greenline sustained
significant damage from the storm of July 2003 known as Hurricane
Elvis.
Volunteers addressed much of the
damage. They used chain saws to cut up the downed trees and used
the tractor where possible to push limbs to the street where the
City of Memphis sanitation crews could pick them up. Volunteers
from both Rhodes and the Vollintine-Evergreen community loaded
trailers with debris and moved it to the street.
Some trees were so large that they
exceeded the volunteer chain saw capacity and/or were in such a
dangerous condition/location that a professional tree company was
hired to cut up the logs. These unexpected costs were paid from the
donations make by contributors to the V&E Greenline.
This church group helped
move logs from the West End of the V&E Greenline and make it
available to patrons once again.
Picking up this debris
will continue on the West End of the V&E Greenline, as volunteer
time becomes available as a part of "Spruce Up the Greenline"
events.
